Born in Okazaki city, Aichi Prefecture, 1109kazu came across Japanese design calligraphy in the winter of 2007. Always being fond of drawing and putting ideas into shape, he was intrigued by the freedom of expression found in Japanese design calligraphy, rather than the practice of tracing teachers’ handwriting in classical calligraphy. While holding “calming the mind” close at heart, he creatively expresses the image of Japanese characters on paper with exquisite handling of the brush. By doing so, 1109kazu aims at expressing not only letters of good meaning but also the light and hope behind letters with bad meaning.
1109kazu works as a freelance calligrapher who emphasizes the sense of “space, inspiration, and balance”.
